Notes on Living, #1
So that was Day 1.
How did it go? Was it everything you expected? Do not feel bad - the secret is that today wasn’t what you expected, because you didn’t really know what to expect. You were sometimes surprised and other times disappointed, once hopeful and later fearful, in one moment you felt sadness and another you were elated. This is what living is, this constantly shifting mixture of highest highs, lowest lows, and the infinite orbits of emotion that somehow lie between.
You are a tiny boat adrift on a great endless sea, and each day afloat will be entirely different but also incredibly similar to the one before - this is the greatest idiosyncrasy of living, the hardest lesson to learn, the merciless but redeeming rule: nothing ever changes, but nothing ever stays the same. Here on the water, the sole true constant is you, but real change occurs only within the tight confines of your flawed and fragile heart.
